Paul Merson says there’s a signing Arsenal could make that would guarantee them the title next season

Arsenal have a big summer transfer window coming up.

Indeed, Andrea Berta has just arrived as the club’s new Sporting Director, and Arsenal should have plenty to spend this summer.

Arsenal already have a few targets lined up too.

Martin Zubimendi has been strongly linked to Arsenal, while Nico Williams is a concrete target too.

Of course, Arsenal’s main priority this summer is to sign a new striker, and according to Paul Merson, speaking on Sky Sports, there’s one striker signing who would guarantee Arsenal the title next season.

Arsenal would walk the Premier League if they signed Alexander Isak

Merson shared his verdict on who Arsenal should sign this summer.

The pundit says he’s a massive fan of Alexander Isak, and he reckons that the Gunners would win the Premier League by 10 points next season if they signed the Newcastle ace.

“I like Isak, I think if Arsenal have got Isak next season they win the league by 10 points. I think they absolutely walk the league. I think from goalkeeper to defence to midfield is as strong as anybody, but we just don’t have anyone to do the hardest job in football, and that’s to put the ball in the net,” Merson said.

“If you want to be successful you have to pay over the top sometimes, and Arsenal need that, they need a centre-forward.”

Premier League winning team’s top scorers

Merson believes Arsenal would win the league if they had a proper goalscorer in the team, and history does suggest that can be the difference between glory and failure.

Indeed, throughout Premier League history, almost every single team that has won the league has had that one world-class attacker leading the line.

Manchester City are an exception to that rule in the early 2020s, while Frank Lampard was also an exception for Chelsea in the 2000s but beyond that, almost every team to ever win the Premier League has had a world-class striker in their side capable of scoring 20 a season.

Arsenal, at the moment, don’t quite have that, but, as Merson says, Isak is that player, and if the Gunners are serious about winning major honours, they need to splash the cash and try to get this deal done in the summer.
