Paul Merson has heaped praise on Arsenal youngster Gabriel Martinelli and has branded him as a ‘superstar in the making’.

The Gunners signed the talented Brazilian from Ituano when he was just 18 years old. He came in and took the English game by storm, scoring 10 goals and providing four assists in just 15 starts in all competitions in his debut campaign.

Martinelli has had his fair share of issues with injuries since. He has struggled to get a consistent run of games in the side as a result, but it looks like those woes are behind him now.

The 21-year-old has become a regular starter for Arsenal under Mikel Arteta.

Martinelli has had a fantastic start to the new season. He has scored in each of the Gunners’ first two games so far, and he’ll be looking to make it three in three when Arsenal head to Bournemouth tomorrow.

In his predictions column on Sportskeeda, Merson raved about Martinelli.

The pundit said: “Gabriel Martinelli is a very good footballer, I just hope the kid can stay fit and get a run of games under his belt.

“He’s an unreal outlet and has got great pace and skill, while he has also shown that he can score this season. If he can stay injury free, I genuinely believe he’s a superstar in the making!”

Martinelli’s biggest issue over the last two-and-a-half years has been injuries.

The talented Brazilian has missed a total of 38 games since December 2019, but he has been fully fit for a while now, and he’s playing his best football for the Gunners at the moment.

Having scored two goals in two games, Martinelli would love nothing more than to find the back of the net for the third game running. If he does, he will become just the sixth Arsenal player in the Premier League era to score in three consecutive games. (Orbinho)

Arsenal take on Bournemouth tomorrow and Martinelli is almost a guaranteed starter.
