Arsenal will be looking to win the Premier League this season.

The Gunners have been knocking on the door for a little while now.

Mikel Arteta’s side have finished second in each of the last two seasons, with Manchester City edging them out on two separate occasions.

Arsenal will be looking to go one step further this time around, but in order to do that, they will need to keep their squad together.

Speaking on the Football’s Greatest Podcast, Paul Merson has been discussing Arsenal’s squad and their title chances next season, and he claimed that the north London club have no chance of winning the Premier League if they lose William Saliba.

Arsenal can’t win the Premier League without William Saliba

Merson shared his verdict on Arsenal and Saliba after being asked about Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk.

“If they were to lose Van Dijk that would be a big blow,” Stelling said.

“Oh end of, a Rolls Royce of a defender, a phenomenal defender. It’s like Arsenal. If Arsenal lost Saliba, who I thought was the defender of the tournament, he was amazing, I would say no chance,” Merson said.

William Saliba is vital

Merson isn’t wrong, William Saliba is arguably Arsenal’s most important player.

Cast your mind back to the 2022/23 season and you’ll remember that Arsenal were in the driving seat in the title race, that was until Saliba got injured.

Saliba missed the latter part of the season for Arsenal that time around, and, uncoincidentally, that coincided with the Gunners’ collapse.

The £27m man is absolutely incredible, and Arsenal need to do all they can to keep hold of him.

Real Madrid have been credited with an interest in Saliba, and after missing out on Leny Yoro, Los Blancos may well make a move for Saliba as they do need a new centre-back.

Arsenal need to make sure they get Saliba tied down to a new deal as soon as they can.
