Paul Merson says £56,000-a-week player has truly transformed Liverpool
In his column on Sportskeeda, Paul Merson raved about Liverpool new boy Luis Diaz.
The Reds have had an incredible few days. Jurgen Klopp signed a new deal that would see him stay at the club until 2026, they overcame a real scare at Villarreal and are still going strong in their pursuit of the quadruple this season.
One man who deserves immense praise for his performances over the last few months is Diaz, who has adapted to the Premier League much quicker than most people expected.
Merson has truly been impressed by him and went on to claim that the Colombian is ahead of Diogo Jota in the pecking order.
Paul Merson: Luis Diaz has transformed Liverpool
The ex-Arsenal man wrote: “Speaking of Liverpool’s attacking unit, the addition of Luis Diaz has sort of transformed them.
“He is ahead of Diogo Jota at the moment. Although they are two very different footballers, their flexibility allows the Reds to line up in many different ways based on the opposition.
“With Sadio Mane also in the mix, you only know that Mohamed Salah is going to play as a right-winger as the rest of them could pretty much play anywhere!”
Both Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz have been incredible for Liverpool, but Merson’s right, the Colombian may just be ahead of the former Wolves man in the pecking order at the moment.
Jota started the game at Villarreal, and Liverpool were rattled in the first half. Unai Emery’s side completely dominated the Reds and Klopp decided to replace the Portugal international with Diaz at the break.
That completely changed the game and the £56,000-a-week Colombian is one of the biggest reasons why Liverpool got past the Yellow Submarine to book a place in the final.
Liverpool will take on Real Madrid in Paris at the end of this month and it will be interesting to see if Diaz will get the nod in that game.
