Sky Sports pundit, Paul Merson, has been singing the praises of Leeds winger Raphinha for the piece of play which produced the late winner for Joe Gelhardt at the weekend.

Writing for his weekly column for Sky, Merson admitted that he was blown away by what Raphinha did to set Gelhardt up, describing the moment as an ‘unbelievable’ piece of play.

The win for Leeds was new manager Jesse Marsch’s first since taking charge. In context, it was a massive win for the Whites who very much eased their relegation fears with what could prove to be a huge three points. And Merson believes that Raphinha doing what he did showed his class.

“That was a big goal from Joe Gelhardt to beat Norwich – an outstanding goal, I would say. Unbelievable by Raphinha. At that time in the game, with that much pressure on, to do what he did honestly takes some doing. He’s gone round the ‘keeper when a lot of people would have just shot. But he just played it in and the lad’s there to tap it in,” Merson said.

Raphinha is one of Leeds’ star players and has been linked with a move away. The likes of Liverpool and Barcelona are said to be watching, while Manchester United have also watched the Brazilian too.

TBR’s View: Raphinha Showed His Class For Leeds

What a piece of play it was from the main man at Leeds. Raphinha simply oozes class and it those sorts of moments which should ensure the Whites stay up. Not many teams have someone like him in the XI, so he should prove vital.

Gelhardt might have been the one to take the plaudits for the goal. But Merson is right to point out Raphinha’s contribution here and he’ll continue to do that sort of thing for the rest of the season you feel.
