We’ve got a great Premier League title race on our hands, and the battle for a top-four finish is also pretty close.
Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa are currently fourth and fifth in the Premier League table on 47 points and 46 points respectively.
A little further back points-wise, Manchester United are sixth on 41 points, and a lot can change in just a few matchdays.
Paul Merson, writing on Sportskeeda, has given his predictions in terms of who out of Spurs and Villa will finish higher in their pursuit of a Champions League spot.

The former Villans ace says he fancies Tottenham to finish higher at this moment in time, but also stressed that football can change so quickly.
“Right now, I fancy Tottenham to finish above Villa in the race for a top-four spot,” he said. “But as we’ve seen countless times before, football changes so quickly!”
Hotly contested Premier League title and Champions League qualification races
Tottenham and Villa are currently still within reach of the Premier League title, even though it would take a cataclysmic collapse from Man City and Liverpool in particularly for that to happen.
Jurgen Klopp‘s Reds currently top the standings with 54 points, while Pep Guardiola‘s Citizens and Mikel Arteta‘s Gunners are on 52 points.
Tottenham are seven points off top spot and Villa are eight points off the summit. Not insurmountable, but City and Liverpool will be hard to catch up.
A top-four finish is a much more realistic target for both sides. At the minute you’d think Tottenham just have the edge, being a little further ahead than Villa in terms of overall squad quality and depth.
However, as Merson says, you never know. Anyone can beat anyone in the league, anyone can slip up and, considering how tight it is towards the top, it could lead to a sort of musical chairs.
