Paul Merson believes that Everton’s Marco Silva should have no concerns about his future as the club’s manager and predicts he will be at Goodison Park for the long term.
The Toffees boss appeared to be under-fire going into the international break after seeing his team lost four consecutive Premier League games on the spin.
But the Merseyside club responded in brilliant fashion on Saturday to beat West Ham 2-0 at home and they looked the real deal.
Silva’s team put on an eye-catching performance where they looked strong offensively and thoroughly deserved three points against West Ham.
Sky Sports pundit Merson feels that Silva will be given plenty more time at the Everton helm and has the support from the club’s hierarchy.
“Marco Silva is at Everton for the long haul. They were in the bottom three heading into a two-week break and he kept his job. He’s got no worries at all,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“He’s staying put for the long term and that was a big result for the club against West Ham. It’s still so early in the season and there are not a lot of points separating everybody. There’s a long, long way to go.
“The board have shown major faith in the manager so it’s now up to him and the players to get the ball rolling.”
Everton were in a woeful position inside the relegation spots over the recent international break and there couldn’t have been many arguments if they parted ways with Silva.
The Portuguese boss is under contract still until 2021 and it looks like he does have the support to continue.
His team moved up to 15th after the win over West Ham and are only four points adrift of Crystal Palace in sixth, which is why it’s hardly room to panic.
There is no doubt that Everton can forget about a European push if their form is similar to the last month, but they have so many talented individuals and it’s up to Silva to try get them all ticking.
