Tottenham v Arsenal: Paul Merson sends warning to Arteta ahead of North London derby
Arsenal go to Tottenham today high on confidence but Paul Merson has warned Mikel Arteta’s side against thinking the game is already won.
The Gunners sit top of the table and are flying. They can go clear of Man City today with a win, after Pep Guardiola’s side were beaten by Manchester United.
Tottenham’s inconsistencies, meanwhile, have got some suggesting that the only result today will be an Arsenal win.
But Merson, speaking on Sky Sports just now, believes Tottenham can cause problems for Arsenal and warned his former side against complacency.
“It wasn’t long ago they knocked Arsenal out the top four and they well beat Arsenal that day. Arsenal have got everything to lose here. I know that sounds strange, but Arsenal are coming here expecting to win. I don’t see it like that,” Merson said.
“With the record. You’ve got the best CF in the business in Harry Kane. Arsenal will have to be at their best. They’ll get all the ball and get excited and pass it around. But Tottenham will counter attack and Arsenal need to be ready for that.”
Arsenal will hope their new found confidence can get them over the line. Any dropping of points will invite City back into things and the pressure could start to build.
TBR’s View: Tottenham can trouble Arsenal
You never know what you’re going to get from this Tottenham side and that’s where Merson’s warning here is bang on.
On their day, they can beat anyone. Kulusevski is likely to be back, while Merson’s comments on Kane are correct as well.
Arsenal will be well up for the game. But NLD games are always feisty affairs and Conte thrives in that sort of environment. Should Tottenham start well, then it could be a long old day for Arsenal.
