There was definitely a few eyebrows raised when Arsenal splashed the cash in the summer on a few names who fans weren’t quite sure about at the time.
The expensive captures of two English players in Ben White and Aaron Ramsdale for close to £80m took everyone by surprise, while the decision to turn Martin Odegaard’s deal permanent was also met with some tentativeness from some fans. However, three quarters of the way into the season and any doubters have been silenced.

All of the players Arsenal signed have impressed and more. And former Gunners midfielder, Paul Merson, has admitted to being shocked by how well they’ve all done.
“The signings he bought in this season. Every one of them has been a success and a half. I’ve never known a window like it. I was thinking I’m not sure about these players. The goalie had let in more goals than anyone else in the last three years,” Merson said on Talksport this morning.
“Tomiyasu, I always think if you’re playing in Italy and nobody else wants you in Italy, you can’t be that great.
Ben White, there was a thing was he a centre half or was he a holding midfield player.
Odegaard I felt like wanted to go back to Real Madrid and Arsenal were like the last resort, but all of them have been absolutely outstanding.”
Both White and Ramsdale have cemented themselves in the England set-up since arriving. White, in particular, has impressed, with Jamie Redknapp singling him out this weekend for praise.
TBR’s View: Arteta and Edu Deserve Big Credit
Talk about proving people wrong. Edu was under pressure in the summer to deliver but he stuck to his grand plan and is now seeing the club reap the rewards.
The good thing for Arsenal is these players are only going to get even better. And Merson didn’t even mention Sambi Lokonga, who was doing well before losing his spot to Xhaka and Partey.
All in all, things are looking pretty good for the Gunners right now.
