Paul Merson makes Leeds prediction that Whites fans will love

Pundit Paul Merson says Leeds will stay up if they can get a point from tomorrow’s huge game with Brighton at Elland Road.

Leeds are in the relegation mire after Wednesday night’s 3-0 home loss against Chelsea, but Merson said in the Daily Star he does not see Burnley winning another game between now and the end of the season.

Leeds’ final home game of the season sees them host the Seagulls before they travel to Brentford on the final day of the campaign.

Merson thinks a point against Graham Potter’s side would prove enough on the day that Burnley travel to face Tottenham.

Merson says Leeds will stay up if they get a point this weekend

“Leeds have self-destructed and they are playing their own cup final this weekend against Brighton. I didn’t see this Leeds collapse coming. I didn’t,” he said.

“They are completely and utterly in panic mode. It was a terrible tackle by Daniel James the other day against Chelsea. You do not need that happening. You’ve got to show some composure. But they’ve got two games that are winnable and if they beat Brighton or get a point I think they stay up – because I don’t see Burnley winning another game.

“They just have to stay composed because there’s too much madness at the moment. I don’t like to use the word brainless, I prefer composure. But there are people who panic under pressure and there are people who don’t, and these players are self-destructing.

“They have got to pull themselves together because they need to stay in the Premier League and it’s getting harder and harder. Everton have started picking up points and it’s in their hands to stay up now so Leeds have got to respond.”

If Leeds did just get a point on Sunday, it would be a nervous midweek wait for them while Burnley play their game in hand against Aston Villa.

Villa did Leeds a favour the other day, beating Burnley 3-1 on their own patch, and Steven Gerrard’s men could well do the double.

For Leeds, it is about maintaining discipline and finding some confidence after a poor run but this is a game they are well capable of winning.
