Paul Merson has told Sky Sports that he expects Harry Kane to leave Tottenham at some point in the near future in search of silverware.
The pundit was discussing the 27-year-old in the aftermath of Sunday’s defeat for Spurs in the North London derby against Arsenal.
Jose Mourinho’s men were beaten 2-1 by their fierce rivals, despite leading in the first half through an Erik Lamela goal.
Kane has scored 26 goals and registered 16 assists this season and is closing in on all sorts of records.

It’s a pretty rife topic whenever Spurs don’t win a game of football but now Merson has suggested that he can envisage Kane leaving Tottenham.
He told Sky Sports: “Ultimately, it’s a big decision for him – I think he’s the best centre forward in the world and I just thought yesterday was another game he would have walked off the pitch and will have thought ‘this isn’t good enough’.
“I want to see Harry Kane finish his career winning stuff because he’s a special player.
“At the end of your career you want to look back at the stuff you have won – Tottenham is a great club and well run but I’m not sure he’ll be able to do it there.”
TBR View: Kane will stay for now but the clock is ticking
It’s fair to say that Merson raises a good point. World-class players will always want to be winning silverware and Kane certainly ticks that box.
Kane looks set to beat Jimmy Greaves’ record as the Tottenham all-time goalscorer, however, and he’ll surely want to reach that milestone.
It will also give Kane a lift to know that Spurs have reached a cup final this season. Admittedly the odds on them beating Manchester City in the final are slim but it’s still a positive step.

Another season without Champions League football could play on Kane’s mind though and whilst they aren’t qualifying for that tournament, there will be some doubt in the striker’s mind.
Tottenham have to gain some consistency and start flying high once again; otherwise, Kane will have a big decision to make in the years to come.
