Paul Merson has delivered the savage verdict of describing Tottenham as the Harlem Globetrotters after slipping out of the Premier League title race.
Spurs are currently third in the league table and now sit 10 points behind leaders Manchester City, but they were right in the picture just a few weeks ago.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have just one point from their last three league fixtures and now they are looking over their shoulder to make sure they earn a top four finish.
Sky Sports pundit Merson expects Spurs to bounce back to winnings ways against Southampton on Saturday, but his comments suggest they don’t quite have the toughness for the crucial moments.
“They are out of the title race, they will be good [against Southampton]. The two times when they’ve had a chance of winning the league they fell horribly short against Wolves and against Burnley,” Merson told talkSPORT.

TBR’s View:
Amid the turmoil of a poor league run, it can’t be forgotten that Spurs have booked their spot in the Champions League quarter-finals after demolishing Borussia Dortmund 4-0 on aggregate over two legs.
Pochettino certainly has a quality group of players at his disposal and of course he will continue to have his doubters until he does lift silverware for the first time with the club.
But they surely wouldn’t trade him for anyone in the world given the job he’s done and eventually their hard work should pay off.
Spurs are still setting extremely high standards with 20 wins out of 29 league games so far, but unfortunately this year their are two outstanding teams in the shape of Manchester City and Liverpool above them leading the way.
