Paul Merson believes that Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is just edged out by Manchester City counterpart Ederson in the battle of the shot-stoppers.
Lloris is fresh off the back of lifting the World Cup with France in the summer and has been a key player for Mauricio Pochettino’s side in recent years.
The 31-year-old proved his worth with a brilliant display in the 1-0 win over West Ham for Spurs at the weekend, but at times this campaign has made some individual mistakes too.
Sky Sports pundit Merson labelled the Spurs captain “wobbly” for some of his errors, but is that too harsh on a player of his quality?
“Wow. One’s a World Cup winner and one is not but I will just go for the Brazilian. I’m not a great believer in goalkeepers being good on the ball but Ederson is a classy operator,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“Lloris has been a bit wobbly this season – sometimes he comes steaming out of his goal and he does not need to do that.”

Lloris may have made a couple of mistakes already this season, but there is no denying how consistent he’s been during his six-year spell at Spurs whereas Ederson is still only in his second year at Man City.
It may be a stretch too far to label Lloris as wobbly, as it’s likely he still has the full support of his teammates and most importantly his manager.
He can be guilty of being slightly rash at times, but he continues to make stunning saves that most goalkeepers wouldn’t be able to make and fans should be thrilled to have him.
