Paul Merson has just predicted the winner of the North London Derby between Arsenal and Tottenham

Arsenal host Tottenham Hotspur in the first North London Derby of 2025.

The two clubs are both desperate for results. Arsenal have lost back-to-back games recently, while although Spurs have had a more positive week in the cups, they are nowhere near where they should be in the Premier League table.

Mikel Arteta’s side are currently second, while Ange Postecoglou’s men are 10 places and 16 points below their fierce North London rivals.

However, league position, form and everything else goes out of the window in the derby, which is what makes it a very exciting clash.

Paul Merson predicts Arsenal vs Tottenham result

Tottenham are high on confidence after two big results recently.

Spurs beat Liverpool, who are arguably the best team in the world, in the Carabao Cup, before picking up a hard-fought win against Tamworth to qualify for the next round of the competition.

In the same week, Arsenal dominated Newcastle and Manchester United in the two cups but ended up on the losing side in both games.

Their confidence would’ve certainly taken a hit, which should give Tottenham a lot of hope of getting a result at the Emirates.

However, despite what has happened in the last two games, Paul Merson feels that Arsenal will come out on top again when they take on Spurs on Wednesday night.

He wrote on Sportskeeda: “I expect them to beat Tottenham, but they desperately need a new centre-forward. Spurs are too up and down and I just don’t see how they can win here.

“A trophy would keep Ange Posteeoglou in the job. If they finish eighth in the Premier League and win the Carabao Cup, where they have a 1-0 advantage ahead of the semi-final second leg at Anfield, that’s still good in my opinion.

“Some top teams could finish in the top four this season and not have a trophy, And this is Spurs by the way, they have never won anything!”

Tottenham’s record at the Emirates Stadium is disastrous

Arsenal left Highbury and moved to the Emirates Stadium in the summer of 2006.

Since then, the Gunners have hosted Tottenham Hotspur on 22 occasions in all competitions. There have been some memorable games over the years. However, Spurs haven’t had much luck.

Tottenham have won just two games at the Emirates since Arsenal moved there almost 19 years ago. The Gunners, on the other hand, have won 13.

Despite their recent problems, Arsenal will go into the North London Derby on Wednesday night as the favourites, and Arteta will expect nothing but a win from his players.

Spurs will definitely cause the Gunners a few problems, but Postecoglou’s system will give Arsenal a lot of space to attack them as well.

That should bring the best out of the likes of Martin Odegaard, who thrives when he’s given space and time in the final third.
