Paul Merson has sent a blunt message to Tottenham by claiming they “live in a little dreamworld”.

Spurs, who sacked Jose Mourinho as their manager at the start of the week, are currently preparing for Sunday’s Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium against Manchester City.

Interim boss Ryan Mason will lead his side out tomorrow, and every supporter is sweating on the fitness of their star centre-forward Harry Kane.

Pundit and ex-Arsenal forward Merson has given a criticism of Spurs:

“Tottenham live in a little dreamworld of where they should be and what they are. They had some good years under Mauricio Pochettino,” Merson wrote for the Daily Star.

“But they still didn’t win anything. And they were top of the league not so long ago. They’ve got to be more realistic.”

TBR’s View:

If you consider the talent have had in their group during the past few years, it’s a massive shame they didn’t manage to get over the line for any kind of silverware.

Many will refer to the wasted opportunity the year Leicester City won the Premier League, plus they lost in the Champions League final against Liverpool.

However, they have moved to a stunning new ground at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and should be able to attract some huge players.

It feels like this upcoming summer window is massive. They need to keep their star players, as well as add some top-class talent to really watch them compete with the very best.

Merson’s comments are massively controversial. You can kind of see where he’s coming from in terms of sacking Mourinho when he’s got them to a cup final, but they want to compete for the major honours in English football with a more attracting style of play.
