Paul Merson doesn’t believe Liverpool can last the entire season unbeaten

Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson has been impressed by Liverpool so far this season, and their ability to keep on winning when not playing their absolute best.

But as per Sky Sports, he wrote off their chances of going the entire season unbeaten in the same way that the Gunners did back in 2003/04.

He said: “Liverpool won’t go unbeaten, not a chance. What Liverpool are doing, winning all these games on the trot, though, is ridiculous. They weren’t great the other day, but they just kept on going and you have to get some breaks every now and again.

“What Liverpool are doing now, it’s more than impressive. They could’ve easily rested on their laurels. They did absolutely nothing wrong in the league, but they ended up being just pipped at the post. They could’ve easily felt sorry for themselves, but they didn’t. They’ve come back and been outstanding.”

TBR’s View – Who will be the team to beat Liverpool?

Liverpool might have been looking at Manchester United and Tottenham, their next two opponents, as two teams who could eventually beat them when the season began.

Now, the struggles of those two sides represent a real opportunity to set a Premier League winning record and two further chances to make yet more serious statements of intent.

Manchester City are the most likely candidates to beat Liverpool, having come within a Riyad Mahrez missed Anfield penalty of doing the league double over the Reds last season.

But Liverpool are now so far clear that even dropping those six points would leave them ahead in the table.
