Paul Merson has explained that it’s “worrying times” for Tottenham’s senior man Mauricio Pochettino and believes he will be questioning his role at the club.
Pochettino has had a torrid week and now has the international break to reflect.
The 47-year-old Spurs boss watched his team get hammered 7-2 by Bayern Munich in the Champions League group stages, as well as lose 3-0 away to Brighton in the Premier League at the weekend.
They are the latest in a string of poor results during the opening months of the season and the North London club are in a difficult period right now.
Sky Sports pundit Merson has questioned Pochettino’s role as manager and believes he will be contemplating his future.
“It’s worrying times for Pochettino. As a manager you get to certain stages in your career and you can only take a team as far as you can take them,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“You can’t take them any further. I’m not sure what’s going on at Tottenham. There are ways of losing football matches and that wasn’t a good way to lose. If I was the manager, I’d sitting there on Sunday morning thinking, ‘Are these players with me?’.
“When I look at that Tottenham team getting brushed aside, and I mean brushed aside, by Brighton, you’d have to ask serious questions.”

TBR’s View:
Pochettino exiting Spurs would be a catastrophe for the club, as he’s done so much for them since he took up his position as manager in 2014 and it seems unlikely that they could find a better replacement.
He needs to be given a free licence in the next couple of transfer windows to build a fresh nucleus in the team, as there are a number of individuals that have gone stale in a Spurs shirt and would be better moving on.
There is an excellent platform in their new stadium to be successful and they have some top-class players, but Pochettino needs to be able to flick the restart button.
