Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson has laid into his old club despite the fact they came from behind to beat West Ham on Monday night.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Merson criticised the direction the Gunners are moving in and said there remain huge problems at the club.
He said: “Arsenal’s win at West Ham papered over huge cracks at the club. Don’t let the late turnaround fool you, Arsenal are heading nowhere. I’ve never seen a game like it. It comes back to the same old thing – confidence, confidence, confidence.
If you’re not winning your confidence goes, it’s the worst feeling in the world. It doesn’t matter how good you are, when the confidence goes, that’s it. All of a sudden, a couple of dodgy performances and it’s panic stations. I just don’t know where they go next.”

TBR’s View – Arsenal must not emulate Manchester United with Solskjaer
Arsenal’s first port of call must be to get a proper manager in, with experience and a vision for the club. If they can’t find the right man, then Ljungberg until the end of the season makes most sense.
But they can’t afford to dive in and hand the Swede the job on a full time basis or they will likely encounter the same problems United have with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, wedded to a club legend without the right experience.
