Paul Merson claims Arsenal can finish in the top four this season
Paul Merson has backed Arsenal for top four.
The Gunners got off to a dreadful start this season but have bounced back emphatically.
Their return to form was emphatic as they brushed Tottenham aside on Sunday and could make it four wins in a row this weekend.
Arsenal will face Brighton at The Amex and they go there in the knowledge that Merson thinks they can return to the Champions League.
The former Arsenal man made a big show of how good Arsenal were, although he also claimed that injuries could derail them.
Paul Merson has backed Arsenal for top four
Via his Sky Sports column, Merson said:
“If Arsenal keep those players fit and they play every week, they would have a chance of getting in the top four and cause problems.”
“They have no Europe this season, so will have time to recover and work on the team.”
“The game on Sunday was their bread and butter, but if they win away at Brighton on Saturday, then I will sit up.”
“But if we talk next week and they have lost at the Amex, I would not be shocked. And that is the problem, they need to get a run of games together.”
“This is a good XI, but if they get injuries, they are going to struggle as there is not much after that.”
“But from what I’ve seen the last few weeks, fair play to them.”
Merson clearly has his doubts, yet if Arteta can secure a fourth successive win then he, and others, may start believing.
It will be a long season, but should the Gunners manage to avoid injuries and put a run together then Merson may just be proved right.
