Paul Merson can’t picture Mauricio Pochettino at Everton

Paul Merson has explained that he can’t picture Mauricio Pochettino moving to Everton.

The Toffees are on the search for a new manager following Marco Silva’s sacking, with club favourite Duncan Ferguson stepping in as caretaker boss for Saturday’s home league match against Chelsea.

The Merseyside giants sit 18th in the top-flight table and as it stands are in a relegation battle, which forced the club to act over Silva.

According to the Times, the likes of Carlo Ancelotti, Vitor Pereira, David Moyes, Marcelino and Erik ten Hag are all potential targets.

The report also details that Everton have made contact to Pochettino with an “approach”.

Pochettino is now available after being dismissed by Tottenham in November, but he’s departed with a great reputation after turning the club into Champions League regulars during his five-year spell.

Merson has admitted that he can’t imagine the 47-year-old taking the reigns at Everton, but it looks like they have made an ambitious swoop to try tempt him.

“They (Everton) are in the bottom three. But they are not going down. Whoever comes in, the expectation is just to keep them up. That shouldn’t be a big ask with the squad they have,” Merson wrote in the Daily Star.

“But who takes that job? Look at the list of managers Arsenal are looking at – Brendan Rodgers, Max Allegri, Mauricio Pochettino. I don’t see Everton getting any of them.”

TBR’s View:

Everton’s next appointment is so crucial and it’s vital that they make the right decision, but need to try act considering they are in the drop zone of the Premier League.

Argentine Pochettino would be an incredible addition to the club and he could definitely help them shoot up the table, but surely he will be eyeing one of the elite jobs in Europe right now.

There are some interesting names linked with the job at Goodison and supporters need some good news quickly.
