Paul Merson has once again had a real go at Liverpool for selling Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich this summer.
The Reds have had a terrible start to the season. They have just two points on the board after three games, which is something nobody would’ve predicted after they lifted the Community Shield at the start of this month.
Paul Merson brands Liverpool’s decision to sell Sadio Mane as the ‘worst business in the world’
After Liverpool lost the Champions League final at the end of last season, Mane made it clear that he wanted to leave the club. Bayern Munich came in for the Senegal international, who wanted the move as well.
After weeks of negotiations, the German giants signed Mane in a deal worth up to £35 million (Sky Sports).
Merson was shocked with Liverpool’s decision then, and he still can’t believe they let Mane go.
He wrote in his column on The Daily Star: “Liverpool were my tip for the Premier League title but they’ve been shaken to their core in their opening three matches. So many of their big players just haven’t got going and weirdly, I could never see them beating Man United.
“Offloading Sadio Mane was the worst business in the world. It was a terrible sale. Even if you kept him for another season and let him go for free, you’ve got a world-class forward for another 12 months.
“For that amount of money – £35m – you can’t tell me Liverpool think that’s a lot because they went and bought Darwin Nunez for £85m. They could have delayed that and kept Mane.
“He’s a big-game player that makes things and Liverpool are currently missing those.”

TBR View:
This isn’t the first time that Merson has had a go at Liverpool for selling Mane to Bayern Munich.
Just last week, he suggested that the Reds have made a ‘huge’ mistake by allowing him to leave, and his opinion has not changed now.
Merson definitely does have a point, but Liverpool were stuck in a difficult position. Mane was desperate to leave and he had entered the final year of his contract.
Liverpool didn’t want to let him go, they were forced to, but we agree with Merson when says that the Reds are really missing the Senegal superstar’s brilliance at the moment.
