Paul Merson believes Manchester United should target Tottenham forward Harry Kane

Paul Merson has urged Manchester United to consider going all out to try sign Tottenham striker Harry Kane during this summer’s transfer window.

Man United are being linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho (Sky Sports), but Merson feels they would be better off bringing Kane to Old Trafford to boost their forward line.

England captain Kane has proven himself to be one of the best centre-forwards in the business during recent years, with 188 goals in just 287 first-team appearances for Spurs.

The 27-year-old is a machine that can score with both feet and is strong in the air, plus he should now be entering the peak years of his career.

Despite failing to win a piece of silverware in his career, he’s been a colossal success story to come out of the north London club’s academy and he managed 24 goals across all competitions last season.

Sky Sports pundit Merson has explained why the Spurs mainstay is someone that Man United should consider trying to sign and he feels it would leave the player with a big question to ask himself if they did come knocking for him.

Man United do have the luxury of Champions League football next season after a top-four finish in the league, while Spurs have to settled for the Europa League.

“I just think with £100m, why don’t you go and get Kane from Tottenham?” he wrote in the Daily Star.

“Over 38 games, Harry Kane will score more goals for you than [Jadon] Sancho. I think they have a chance of winning the Premier League if he goes there.

“Would he go? You’d have to ask serious questions of him if he didn’t! Winning trophies is the name of the game and he has a much better chance of doing that at United than Spurs.”

TBR’s View – Kane exit would wreck Spurs

Spurs fans certainly don’t need to panic about the future of their talisman Kane at the moment and there are no recent reports to suggest he could be on the move.

Merson believes that with £100million Man United should pursue the centre-forward and on paper it looks like it could be a great match, but surely Spurs would demand a much higher fee for them.

Fortunately for Spurs it looks like current manager Jose Mourinho consider Kane to be pivotal to plans moving forward and it’s no surprise given his consistency on the pitch.
