Aston Villa legends Paul McGrath and Ian Taylor have given their thoughts on the Villans’ Premier League triumph over Arsenal today.

Dean Smith’s charges hosted the Gunners at Villa Park and took the lead after just two minutes.

Bertrand Traore pounced on Cedric Soares’ poor backpass towards a hesitant Gabriel Magalhaes before teeing up Ollie Watkins for a close-range finish via a deflection.

Although Arsenal had the majority of possession, Villa created the more threatening chances from there on in, with Watkins, John McGinn and Jack Grealish all testing Mat Ryan.

The hosts were also tested on a couple of occasions as Granit Xhaka forced an impressive save from Emiliano Martinez from a free kick.

Nicolas Pepe then shot wide when played through and also tested the former Arsenal keeper with a deflected effort.

However, Villa managed to keep the Gunners at bay and claim all three points, bouncing back superbly from their midweek lost to West Ham.

Here is what McGrath and Taylor wrote on Twitter about the claret and blue victory:

Up next for Villa is a Premier League trip to Brighton next Saturday.
