Liverpool are set to complete a club-record transfer this week as they close in on the signing of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.
Wirtz is set to join Liverpool in a deal worth up to £116m this summer, and the German will arrive at Anfield with a lot of pressure on his young shoulders.
As good as Florian Wirtz looks, the midfielder remains unproven at Premier League level, and there’s always that doubt when a player arrives from a league such as the Bundesliga.
However, according to Paul Joyce, speaking on The Game Football Podcast, there is a view within football that this is a sensational signing for Liverpool.

Florian Wirtz viewed as sensational signing
Joyce shared what he’s been hearing from key sources within the game about Wirtz.
According to the journalist, people within football believe Wirtz is a top signing, claiming that some think this is a major coup.
In fact, some have gone as far as to suggest that this is a ‘sensational’ signing for the Reds.
“And one of the things I’ve found really interesting is the level of anticipation for this signing amongst Liverpool fans is obviously huge, but you hear some things within the sort of football industry that people think within the industry feel it’s a major coup for Liverpool,” Joyce said.
“I think if people read Johnny Northcroft’s piece from the Sunday Times at the weekend, he spoke about somebody at a football club saying it’s an unbelievable signing. Some people I’ve spoken to away from Liverpool described it as sort of sensational, which I think that’s the sort of true sort of barometer.”
Florian Wirtz’s stats this season
Wirtz is seen as a sensational signing by some within the game, and it’s not hard to understand why.
At the age of just 22, Wirtz is already shining as one of the best players in the Bundesliga, as the stats this season show.

The German is pulling all of the strings in the Bayer Leverkusen midfield at the moment, and if he can bring that same level of performance over to Anfield, the Reds may have an absolute superstar on their hands here.
Some aren’t sold on Wirtz as a signing, but make no mistake about it, if this all goes to plan, Wirtz could end up being the signing of the summer.
