Wigan Athletic manager has suggested to Sky Sports that Liverpool should look to sign Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang during the summer.
The Gunners hitman is out of contract during the summer of 2021 and Arsenal won’t let his contract run down and risk losing him for free.
That will probably start a frantic bidding war for a player who has scored 20 goals in all competitions during 2019/20.
Arsenal value the striker at £50 million but it’s unclear at this stage whether there is any serious interest from Liverpool.
Cook thinks the Gabonese hitman would get in any team and implied that Liverpool should make a move.
He told Sky Sports: “I think Aubameyang has got 17 goals this year during a season that Arsenal, although they’re in a good vein of form at the minute, you wouldn’t say it’s one of Arsenal’s best years by any stretch of the imagination.
“I think Aubameyang would certainly score goals in any football team. The problem you get when you get players like that is that they expect to play.
“Who would you leave out? Have you got that squad rotation? I think I’d leave that to Jurgen (Klopp) to sort out. It’s a great problem to have.”
Liverpool could potentially do with another forward player and signing Aubameyang would be an incredible piece of business.
The proven goalscorer would complement Liverpool’s team with aplomb and he’d have the potential to score even more goals.
Aubamyeang also has an assist to his name this season during a 3-1 win over West Ham and he does bring more to the team than just goals.
Liverpool have Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah on their books but in reserve, there is very little.
Divock Origi is an option but he pales into comparison alongside Aubameyang.
There is little evidence at this stage that Klopp would be interested in the Arsenal man but he’d be an exceptional signing for the Reds if they did enter the race.
