Patryk Klimala has posted on Instagram for the first time since the turn of the year just hours after reports stated he is on the verge of leaving Celtic to join MLS side New York Red Bulls – for a fee that might see Celtic recoup their outlay.
Klimala, 22, joined Celtic in January 2020 from Polish side Jagiellonia Bialystok – where he had a hand in 15 goals during 50 outings. A figure was believed to be in the region of £3.5million, but he has failed to repay that figure since moving to Parkhead.
The Daily Record claim that Klimala, who has represented Poland at Under-21 level, is set to join New York Red Bulls and that Celtic could recoup all of the £3.5million they paid to sign him. Cameron Palmer and Andrew Gutman play for NYRB.
Last posting in December, Klimala took to Instagram just hours after the report emerged – posting a one-word message alongside a picture of him in a Poland shirt, captioning the image with “watch” along with a couple of emojis.
TBR’s view – Selling Klimala is unfortunately the only option
Although he probably would argue he has not been given a proper go, netting three goals in 28 simply is not good enough. If Celtic can get most or even all of the figure they paid to sign him, then it is an excellent bit of business from Dominic McKay.
Even if he impresses in the MLS – which is likely given the drop in standard between Scottish football and American soccer – it is still the right decision to offload him. Odsonne Edouard, Albian Ajeti and Leigh Griffiths could also depart this summer.
