Around this time last year Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira threw his support behind under-fire midfielder Granit Xhaka following his public dispute with the club’s supporters.
The Switzerland star man went back at the club’s fanbase after receiving abuse following his substitution during a home game against Crystal Palace.
Plenty of pundits said the midfielder wouldn’t play for the club again; others presumed he’d be sold as soon as possible.

Not Vieira though. Speaking to Metro in 2019 he believed the club should support Xhaka, slamming the people criticising the international performer.
He said: “I find it really difficult a lot of ex-footballers have jumped on him and being really negative towards him, it’s too easy.
“I know how good he is and he will come through this difficult period because he’s a strong man, he’s a good player. He will show how good he is.”
Since Mikel Arteta checked in at the Emirates Stadium, Xhaka has been reborn and become part of his plans.
He has made 10 appearances this season and has actually been handed the captain’s armband once more.
Xhaka is paid £100,000-a-week at Arsenal and his return to prominence in the team has been quite something.
Classy
Vieira is a man who knows all about playing for the Gunners and becoming a fan favourite.

He clearly saw something in the Swiss star to warrant his public backing and the 28-year-old is certainly proving the Frenchman to be correct.
There is, of course, another challenge awaiting Xhaka right now.
With Thomas Partey signing in the summer and a return to form for Mohamed Elneny; Xhaka must stamp his authority on the Gunners midfield all over again.
