Patrick Vieira has been quoted by the Chronicle as saying that his loyalties lie with current side OGC Nice, amid rumours he could be the man to replace Rafa Benitez at Newcastle United.
The 43-year-old is one of a number of managers being linked with a move to The Toon this summer, after owner Mike Ashley failed to agree terms with Benitez. The Spaniard wanted a long-term deal.
Vieira, who has managed New York City and is now in the top tier of French football with Nice, has been somewhat below par during his time as a manager in his home country. He has won just 16 of 41 outings.
The former Arsenal skipper was asked about whether he would consider taking over at Newcastle, or indeed leaving Nice at all this summer, and he responded by stating that he is keen to remain with the French club.

“I am at OGC Nice long-term. I have no intention of going elsewhere,” Vieira said. “I’ve always felt good here and with the people around me. I can’t see myself anywhere other than OGC Nice.”
TBR’s view – Vieira is the big-name boss Newcastle need
Newcastle need a big-name manager capable of bringing players to Tyneside this summer, and Vieira can be that man. Newcastle have been known for using Ligue 1 as a scouting pool, and having a Frenchman at the helm will help.
However, it seems Ashley’s inability to both keep Benitez and sell the club has made the managerial role at Newcastle a poisoned chalice. Though an amazing job, what manager would want to work under his dictatorship?
Vieira’s comments are a blow to The Toon, and it remains to be seen who they will target next.
