Patrick Bamford was the hero for Leeds United on Tuesday night in the win over Preston North End, but has opened up by stating he understands recent frustration from some fans towards him.
The 25-year-old centre-forward was on the scoresheet twice, as the Whites produced an impressive away display to secure a 2-0 victory.
He opened the scoring with an excellent left-footed effort from range that flew into the net and he made sure of three points with a header.
The English striker now has nine goals in 20 games across all competitions this campaign and is weighing in with a key contribution at Elland Road.
Marcelo Bielsa’s team moved up to second in the Championship table with the win and the pressure hass now shifted onto Sheffield United, who are two points behind them and travel to Birmingham on Wednesday.
Bamford spoke after his man-of-the match display against Preston to explain he knew his luck would turn around in the final third, after four previous matches without a goal.
He understands why there has been some criticism from people about his form and understands it, but backs his ability to shine through.
“I’ve taken quite a bit of stick in the last few games and I know where I missed the penalty I didn’t play brilliant, but I just kept working and kept doing the same things that have got me to where I am,” Bamford told LUTV.
“I knew that if I kept level-headed and as a striker you can’t get frustrated about missing chances, for me the more you miss it makes it more likely that the next one will go in. So if I keep shooting I’m going to score and that’s what happened tonight.
“I can feel the fans frustration because I was a fan once at Forest and I’m sure I’ve given players a fair bit of stick from the stands. It’s one of them where I knew it would eventually go in and they have the right to be frustrated.”

TBR’s View:
Bamford come up trumps for Bielsa in midweek and proved why he’s turned out to be a great summer signing for Leeds.
Kemar Roofe’s return from injury is a major boost in attack for the Yorkshire giants, but Bamford has surely done enough to retain his spot going into the next game against Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend.
Bamford is ultimately in the side to score goals and he’s proven during his career that he’s prolific at Championship level, which is why fans should be able to trust him despite the occasional howler.
