Patrick Bamford has told The Official Leeds United Podcast what Kalvin Phillips said about that pass in the Whites’ emphatic win at Burnley at the weekend.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side produced an amazing second-half display at Turf Moor. They went into the break 1-0 ahead thanks to a Mateusz Klich goal.

But they stepped through the gears after the break. And they rounded off the win with a stunning brace from Rodrigo.
Certainly, the Spaniard’s first was the more outrageous finish of the two. But the build-up to the second was on another level – largely thanks to Phillips.

The England international produced an incredible pass out to the wing to find Jack Harrison. The ball travelled 50 yards and barely made it above knee height before finding the winger.
It was an amazing moment of quality from the 25-year-old. But Bamford suggested that Phillips felt that he had little choice but to punt the ball towards Harrison due to how exhausted he was.
He told The Official Leeds United Podcast: “Do you know what he said? He said ‘I was so tired that I just thought I’m just going to leather it and hope that it gets there’. And he’s absolutely just zinged it. It was like Paul Scholes.”
It was always going to take something special to divert attention away from Rodrigo’s two brilliant goals in the 4-0 victory.
But Phillips’s pass certainly deserves to be remembered just as fondly – even if he had little intention of producing the most delicious ball out to the wing.
