Patrick Bamford shares what Kalvin Phillips was texting him after facing West Ham on Saturday
Patrick Bamford has admitted to the Leeds United podcast that there was a flat feeling around the dressing room after their game against West Ham United last weekend.
Heartbreak for Leeds
Leeds were beaten 2-1 by West Ham at Elland Road last Saturday, with Michail Antonio scoring a last minute winner.
Antonio burst past the Leeds defence and finished cooly to ensure that Marcelo Bielsa’s side’s difficult start to the season continued.
Leeds actually put in an improved performance on the day, but just couldn’t hold out to claim any sort of reward.
Bamford was unable to feature in the fixture due to injury, and he was not in the dressing room at full-time.
But he has revealed that he exchanged texts with both Luke Ayling and Kalvin Phillips after the game.
He said: “Because of the covid rules we weren’t allowed in the changing room before or after.
“But I was texting Kalv and Luke and they were just saying that the boys were flat a bit, but that was to be expected with a last minute winner.
“I think today and yesterday everyone seemed like they had but it behind them and were ready for the weekend.”
First win still pending
Leeds defeat to West Ham means that they are still searching for their first league win of the season.
Bielsa’s men haven’t quite been as vibrant to date as they were in their first campaign, with injuries also hitting them hard.
Leeds are currently in 18th place in the Premier League table, although there is not too much panic forming around Elland Road for the time being.
The Whites are next in action in two days’ time when they take on Watford, in a game which looks like a good opportunity to get their season up and running.
