Patrick Bamford shares what Adam Forshaw told him before Leeds equaliser against Brentford

Patrick Bamford has shared on LUTV what Adam Forshaw told him before the striker scored Leeds United’s dramatic equaliser in their Premier League clash with Brentford on Sunday.

The Whites have taken four points this week, with three coming thanks to stoppage-time goals. Of course, Raphinha scored a penalty to give them victory over Crystal Palace in midweek.

It had appeared that they were set to lose against the Bees. A second-half turnaround had taken the visitors into a 2-1 lead as the board went up for another five minutes.

However, Bamford reacted fastest to volley home the equaliser that earned Leeds a valuable point. The result has moved Marcelo Bielsa’s side six points clear of the bottom three.

It was a crucial goal for Bamford personally. He has been sidelined since September due to an ankle injury.

It did feel that the goal was never going to come for Leeds amid the disappointment of conceding two and losing Liam Cooper and Kalvin Phillips to injury. But Bamford insisted that he was always hopeful that he would get one final opportunity after coming on in the second-half. And he was not the only one to sense it coming.

“I always felt as soon as I came onto the pitch, I was going to get one chance,” he told LUTV. “It didn’t come for ages and ages. And then I thought still there’s time left, it’s going to come. Forshaw said to me, ‘you’re going to get one chance’.”

Bamford return a positive on bittersweet afternoon for Leeds

It could prove to be a massive point for Leeds. And there were definitely positives. Both Bamford and Luke Ayling returned from lengthy lay-offs.

Of course, the injuries to Cooper and Phillips will be a concern. And there is disappointment concerning the manner of the second-half capitulation.

But having Bamford back could be vital for Leeds. He now has two last-gasp equalisers under his belt this season. Bielsa will be hoping that there are plenty more goals to come from him.
