Patrick Bamford shares his disappointment concerning Leeds teammate

Patrick Bamford has told The Official Leeds United Podcast that he loves playing alongside Rodrigo, but admitted that it is a shame that it has not happened more often.

After a difficult first year, Rodrigo has started to show just why Leeds broke their club record to bring him to Elland Road last summer.

He has scored three in his last three appearances. The two goals against Burnley really reminded everyone that Leeds have a Spain international playing in attack for them.

But he is also creating goals. He produced an outrageous pass over the top for Bamford’s goal in the 2-0 win at Southampton on Tuesday.

The 30-year-old has only made 13 starts in the Premier League this season. And Bamford admitted that it is one disappointment that he has not got to play alongside him more often.

“The pass he played for my goal, you know that technically, he’s so good,” he told The Official Leeds United Podcast. “And his vision’s so good. To be honest, for me it’s a shame that I never really got to play with him constantly because he got Covid, then he got injured, then he got another injury and it took him a while to get in the team.

“He’s not really a nine, but he’s kind of split between a nine and a 10. I love playing with him because he’s dropping short all the time and getting on the ball. I want to play with the best players and he’s obviously a Spanish international.”

If Rodrigo can get that consistency, he could be a revelation next season. His return of six goals is encouraging given how many setbacks he has had to deal with.

Remarkably, he has only seen out 90 minutes four times since joining Leeds. So there is definitely scope for Rodrigo and Bamford to build a much stronger relationship and understanding.

If they do, Leeds could easily prove to be an even more lethal side going forward next season.
