Patrick Bamford reacts to Raphinha making Brazil debut
Patrick Bamford has told The Official Leeds United Podcast that it is unbelievable to see Raphinha make his debut for Brazil, while joking that his teammate took more than 48 hours to reply to his message of congratulations.
Raphinha appears to have enjoyed a pivotal moment in his career in the last week or so.
The 24-year-old, of course, was initially called up by Brazil during the previous break. But his debut came in this window.
He was initially named on the bench for their World Cup qualifiers with Venezuela and Colombia. But he got on in both games. And in both, he went on to make a major impact.
In the first, he had a hand in all three goals in a 3-1 win. He provided two assists.
And it seemed that he was the most exciting player in the stalemate with Colombia.
His performances will not come as a huge surprise to the Elland Road faithful. And Bamford shared just how proud the rest of the squad were to see him the winger involved for Selecao.
“He obviously came on and changed the game which is massive on your debut,” he told The Official Leeds United Podcast. “The fact that he’s playing for Brazil, that’s massive. When you think, from when I was younger, of all the Brazil heroes that you watched at the World Cups, the fact that Rapha’s played for Brazil is just unbelievable.
“I gave him a text. It took him 48 hours or more to reply.”
Raphinha set to be a mainstay for Brazil for years to come
Raphinha has certainly been Leeds’ most exciting player since his arrival from Rennes last summer. And he has been a shining light in a difficult start to this season.
He has now taken that next step in his career. He has now proved that he should have a place in the Brazil ranks for years to come.
That will make Leeds’ task of keeping him no easier. But as Bamford suggests, most associated with the Whites could not be happier about his trajectory.
