Patrick Bamford has praised teammate Kalvin Phillips for his performance in Leeds United’s 0-0 draw against Manchester United last Sunday.

The Yorkshire giants earned an impressive point at Elland Road in their most recent Premier League match on the weekend.

Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds are ninth in the league table enjoying a stunning return back in the top flight, and they went head-to-head with second-placed Man United.

Whites striker Bamford, 27, has singled out Phillips for his individual display against Man United. Additionally, he revealed his teammate was covered in bruises post-match in the dressing room.

25-year-old England midfielder Phillips was at his combative best sat in front of the defence, where he was kept busy trying to nullify the threat of Bruno Fernandes in the goalless draw.

“Everyone had a fair few kicks and bruises, especially Kalvin,” Bamford told the Leeds United official podcast.

“I think when you watch the game back, you recognise how well some players have played. I could tell Kalvin was everywhere. I could see how much he was putting into it and what a difference he was making. He had so many kicks and bruises in the changing room, he was knackered.”

TBR’s View:

Phillips is such a key figure for the Leeds team when it comes to what they do in possession, as he operates at the base of midfield dictating play and spraying long passes.

However, he’s an all-action central midfielder that is prepared to do the ugly defensive work too, and is happy to put his foot in.

His performances in the Premier League have fully vindicated the decision of England manager Gareth Southgate to call him up to the squad. He will now expect to be an important part of the Three Lions’ plans this summer as well for the European Championships.
