Patrick Bamford has made a comparison between Leeds United’s Raphinha and Paris Saint-Germain star Angel Di Maria.
Raphinha, 24, was a summer signing for Leeds at the beginning of the season and he’s made an excellent start to life in English football.
He’s a left-footed winger that has been a real threat so far at Elland Road cutting inside from the right flank, scoring two goals and supplying two assists in 12 appearances.
The Brazilian is someone with immense individual ability and has added extra flair to Marcelo Bielsa’s XI.
Leeds forward Bamford has even compared his teammate to Angel Di Maria.
32-year-old Di Maria has been renowned as one of the best wide players in European football during the past decade and it’s also helped him earn 104 international caps for Argentina.
The left-footed attacker joined Paris Saint-Germain for £44.3million (BBC) from Manchester United back in 2015 and has proven himself to be a world-class operator.
He was part of a PSG side that finished as runners-up in last year’s Champions League and will be desperate to go one better this season.
“The closest similarity to him is he is very much like Di Maria,” Bamford told the official Leeds United podcast.
“I mean, I’ve never trained or played with Di Maria, but watching him and watching the way Rapha moves, left-footed, they are really slim, the fact he can run all day, he’s fast.”
Di Maria may not be rated as one of the world’s very best wingers by English audiences, as he only had a brief spell in the Premier League with Manchester United.
But the phenomenal wide player has had a career that has seen him make a huge impact at both Real Madrid and PSG, particularly with the latter.
It’s quite some comparison between Di Maria and Leeds winger Raphinha, but they certainly have similar attributes with their pace, creativity and danger in one-on-one scenarios.
