Patrick Bamford comments on Leeds changing room and training after Brighton loss

Patrick Bamford has told the official Leeds United podcast that the Whites squad felt “frustrated” in the changing room after the club suffered a 1-0 defeat to Brighton on Saturday – and has commented on training since.

The 27-year-old failed to add to his 10 Premier League goals as Leeds proved ineffective against the Seagulls. Indeed, Neal Maupay – who scored against Leeds for Brentford during Marcelo’s reign – scored the only goal of the game.

Supporters have since criticised the state of the Elland Road pitch, while Leeds lacked any kind of creativity going forward. Mateusz Klich is not performing to his best, according to supporters – as are a number of others.

Leeds have now lost their last three games and have failed to score in 2021 – losing to Crawley, Tottenham and Brighton. But Bamford states that the atmosphere remains positive, despite a frustrated changing room.

“We were frustrated after the game in the changing room, everyone was a bit down,” Bamford said. “We were all blaming the pitch and how shocking it was, but we knew we weren’t good enough ourselves.

“Since we’ve been back in, it has been a steady build up. Today was weird, we had a head tennis tournament to boost the spirits. Generally, everyone is upbeat. If anyone said we’d be in 12th place at this point, we’d bite your hand off.”

TBR’s view – Bamford has it right, Leeds are still in a good place

Premier League sides, much more established than the current Leeds team, will know that if you sit in mid-table obscurity, there are points throughout the season in which you go on a run that sees you lose a few matches.

Leeds are in the middle of that right now, but come into it off the back of two excellent wins over Burnley and West Brom. Leeds will come again and have the ideal opportunity against a Newcastle side struggling even more.
