Patrick Bamford admits he should have 10 goals already this season

Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford admits he is disappointed not to have scored more goals this season.

The striker was in fine form last night as Leeds went back to the top of the Championship with a 1-0 win over West Brom at Elland Road.

But despite his man-of-the-match display, Bamford failed to find the back of the net. He had one good chance last night, which was well saved by Baggies goalie Sam Johnstone, but admitted to BBC West Yorkshire Sport after the game that he has also been wasteful with other chances.

One occasion he brought up was a miss against Derby County. Bamford skied a lob over Derby stopper Kelle Roos when Leeds were 1-0 up in that game. The Whites went on to draw 1-1 after Chris Martin’s late goal for the Rams.

“I am probably more critical of myself than the fans are. I have got four (goals) but I should have ten goals. I look at one (goal) per game, that’s the target I try and set myself.

“I’ve had the chances. Sometimes keepers make good saves. Sometimes my finishing, like the chip at Derby was poor looking back at it. I’ll keep working on it, after training and stuff. It’ll come and I am sure I’ll get the goals that we need.”

TBR’s View

There is no doubt that Bamford’s performances have improved this season. His work-rate is higher than last term and he is certainly having more of an impact on games than in 2018-19.

Unfortunately, he has also lost a bit of his cutting edge in front of goal. His last strike for Leeds came in the 3-0 win over Stoke City in August. Last night made it five games without a goal for the striker but he is certainly getting himself in the right positions to find the net on a more regular basis.

If he can bring a clinical streak back into his game, then Leeds United will have every chance f marching on to promotion.
