Manchester United icon Patrice Evra likened Scott McTominay to Chelsea legend Frank Lampard following the Premier League clash between the two sides on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils legend, speaking on Amazon Prime Video Sport, lauded the Man United talent after his brace helped Erik ten Hag’s side to a 2-1 win over the Blues.

McTominay opened the scoring against Chelsea with a rebound from Harry Maguire’s effort in the 19th minute of the match at Old Trafford.

Indeed, Man United could’ve been two up at that point, but for Bruno Fernandes seeing his eighth-minute spot kick saved by Robert Sanchez.

The Red Devils continued to turn the screw but couldn’t add to their tally in the first half, and Chelsea punished them as Cole Palmer fired home from just inside the area.

However, McTominay restored Man United’s advantage with a close-range header from Alejandro Garnacho’s cross in the 69th minute of the match.

The 26-year-old’s runs from deep contributed to the Red Devils threatening in attack, on top of his brace getting Man United all three points.

Evra liked what he saw from McTominay and he admitted it came as no surprise to him to see the player doing so well and becoming a matchwinner.

“I’m not surprised,” he said. “McTominay is always there when it’s an important game.

“He has reminded me a bit of Frank Lampard recently! He is doing this with United and with the Scottish national team, so well done!”

McTominay delivered one of his best performances in a while. He’s better than some give him credit for, and he’d be amazing as a box-to-box midfielder.

If Man United can let him shine in such a role, no doubt we’d be seeing a different McTominay playing at the best of his talents and abilities.
