Patrice Evra and Emi Martinez react on Instagram as Aston Villa confirm exit
John Terry has departed Aston Villa following four years at the football club. He arrived in 2017, initially as a player, but has spent three years on Dean Smith’s coaching staff. Following his exit, Patrice Evra and Emi Martinez have reacted.
Terry, 40, joined the Villans in 2017 after leaving Chelsea. He made over 700 appearances for the Blues but following his release, he made the decision to continue playing.
His only season the claret and blue of Villa was largely riddled with injury. As a result, he opted to hang the boots up and became Smith’s assistant head coach. In his first season on the backroom team, he helped oversee Villa’s promotion back to the Premier League.
What have Evra and Martinez said about Terry leaving Villa?
Evra was an opponent of Terry’s on many occasions. Chelsea and Manchester United did battle on many occasions and clearly, there is a lot of mutual respect.
The Blues and the Red Devils often fought it out for the Premier League title and Evra has wished Terry well for his future endeavours.
For Martinez, he has experienced Terry’s coaching methods first hand. He made the move to Villa Park last summer and has enjoyed a season working alongside the ex-defender.
The Argentinean stopper’s message implies he will be a tough act to follow. Although Smith does want to replace Terry, it’s not thought as though anything is particularly close in that sense.
Both Evra and Martinez have sent well wishes to Terry on the day that he announces the tough decision to leave Villa Park.
