‘Passenger’, ‘Pedestrian’ – Aston Villa fans rage at Conor Hourihane’s performance

Aston Villa midfielder Conor Hourihane was one of several players who were heavily criticised after yesterday’s stalemate.

Reading held Aston Villa to a 0-0 draw and Hourihane was among those blamed for a lack of creativity.

The Republic of Ireland international played in central midfield and has provided a handful of assists this season.

But he was unable to inspire the Villans to victory yesterday as a combination of missed chances and good defending kept Aston Villa at bay.

There were positives for Aston Villa, who looked much better in defence with Tyrone Mings at centre-half.

But top scorer Tammy Abraham was not quite at his best and the midfielders – bar John McGinn – failed to live up to expectations.

Aston Villa would have expected to beat struggling Reading, especially as they are aiming for a late play-off push.

But the goalless draw leaves the West Midlands outfit four points shy of the play-off zone with 16 games remaining this season.

Hourihane is often seen as the scapegoat for Aston Villa fans and he has attracted plenty of criticism in his time.

Below are some responses from Aston Villa fans discussing Hourihane’s performance.
