Report: Paratici and Mendes relationship could be key in Tottenham landing £50m flyer
Tottenham remain in the mix when it comes to signing Wolves winger, Adama Traore, with Football.London reporting today that Fabio Paratici is a big fan of the Spanish star.
Spurs’ interest in Traore is nothing brand new as we know. Indeed, it was only in the summer that they bid around £30m for the Wolves ace. But, as the Sun reported at the time, the Molineux outfit valued Traore closer to the £50m mark and no deal was done.
However, respected Tottenham journalist, Alasdair Gold, has said in his latest Football.London column that Traore remains very much in the sights of Paratici. It is suggested Traore’s name has stayed in the conversation at Spurs thanks, in part, to Paratici’s relationship with Jorge Mendes.
The well-known ‘Super Agent’ has been instrumental in Wolves’ upturn in fortunes in recent years. His links to Portugal have seen a number of players arrive in the Midlands. Paratici knows Mendes from his time in Turin with Juventus. And if he fancies Traore, he’ll hope the relationship pays dividends.
Traore, known for his pace and power in wide areas, is reportedly seen as an ideal wing-back at Spurs. However, as FL point out, his stats are worrying. This season, for example, he has yet to score or assist in 17 games.
TBR’s View: At £50m, Tottenham Can Do Better Than Adama Traore
While Wolves might well lower the asking price a bit given Traore’s contract situation, you do feel Spurs could do better here.
They paid big money for Emerson Royal in the summer. However, reports have suggested Conte already wants someone better on the right. With Traore, you do get that pace and power. And on his day, he can be unplayable.
But there are downsides to his game, too. The basic stats paint a poor picture, while he’s not exactly the best defender around for a 3-4-3 system.
