Paraag Marathe makes claim on Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds future
Paraag Marthe has told BBC Sport that he is confident that Marcelo Bielsa will stay at Leeds United beyond this season, insisting that Andrea Radrizzani is working hard to ensure that he signs a new deal.
Bielsa remains arguably the most popular figure in Leeds. As the end of his third season at Elland Road looms, the Argentinian has taken the Whites from mid-table in the Championship, to promotion, to the league title in the second tier, and now to a top-half finish in the Premier League.
There is a sense that Leeds have not yet realised their full potential under Bielsa. But once again, there are some questions arising about his future.
As noted by BBC Sport, his current deal expires this summer. But the club’s vice-chairman suggested that he expected Bielsa to still be at the club next year.
“Andrea has been working hard at making sure and trying to keep Marcelo with us … And so I’m confident in that. And I’m hopeful, just like any supporter would be,” he told BBC Sport.
In truth, from the outside, it would be a huge surprise if Bielsa was not at Leeds next year. It would certainly be a huge task for the Whites to replace him, so the club will be doing all they can to make sure he goes nowhere.
Leeds do appear to have some way to go before they reach their ceiling under Bielsa. So it would be a massive shame if he left before the journey came to an end.
For that reason, Marathe’s comments will be further music to the fans’ ears.
