Palace confirm Zaha stay – will Everton swoop on Iwobi

Everton have missed out on Wilfried Zaha, with Crystal Palace confirming he is staying at the club (via Sky Sports live blog, 15:29 pm).

The Eagles have stood firm over the Ivory Coast international, despite the fact that the player had handed in a transfer request on Wednesday.

The Toffees had lodged a bid of £70 million plus James McCarthy (who has now joined Palace in a seperate deal) and Cenk Tosun, which was swiftly rejected.

It is a blow for Everton, especially after the player had seemingly been ready to force a move by handing in a transfer request.

It leaves Everton with very little time to get somebody else un, but perhaps they will now intensify their pursuit of Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi at the eleveth hour.

Everton had lodged a bid of £30 million on Wednesday after their bid for Zaha for rejected (Evening Standard), with Arsenal quick to turn the offer down.

90min claim Arsenal would be willing to sell if Everton lodged a bid of £38 million.

That would be a big price to pay for someone who is yet to show real consistency in the Premier League, but Everton could really do with fresh impetus in the wide areas.

Only time will tell if Marcel Brands resumes the pursuit right at the death.
