Rochdale defender and Northern Ireland cap Ryan McLaughlin has urged his international teammate Paddy McNair to join Celtic on Instagram, while commenting on Rangers winger Jordan Jones’ post.
Fellow Northern Ireland star Jones had sent a message to Rangers fans on Instagram, after being photographed in the blue of Rangers for the first time. It drew applause from Middlesbrough ace McNair, who said “class mate”.
McNair, 24, is renowned for his versatility, which allows him to play in central midfield, centre-back, attacking midfield and even right-back. The ex-Sunderland and Manchester United star could be on the move this summer.
He managed just 23 outings for Middlesbrough last season despite being signed from Sunderland for £5million. McLaughlin reacted to McNair’s comment, urging him to move to Parkhead by saying “join Celtic mate”.
McNair would be an excellent signing for the Scottish champions. It is clear that Neil Lennon wants a new midfielder, with doubts over the future of Olivier Ntcham and Scott Brown 34 next week.
A move for David Turnbull fell through last week and although a deal could still be reached, it remains to be seen if Celtic will land the teenage ace. McNair could be another option, then.
Excellent in central midfield, McNair can also do a job at centre-back and would provide cover following the exits of Dedryck Boyata and Filip Benkovic. McNair is the perfect summer signing for the Hoops.
