Celtic legend Scott Brown has been confirmed as joining Aberdeen on a two-year player-coach deal which will see him team up with ex-teammate Stephen Glass – and Paddy McCourt has reacted on Twitter to the news.

Brown, 35, enjoyed a stunning 14-year campaign at Celtic following his move from Hibernian in 2007. He played 612 times for the Bhoys, averaging a title every 28 games – winning 22 trophies, 10 of which were league titles.

The 55-time Scotland international was reportedly offered the chance to extend his stay at Celtic by another 12 months, but he has chosen to sign a contract at Aberdeen that secures his future until the summer of 2023.

A pre-contract has been agreed, in a deal that will see Brown continue to play – but also embark on a coaching career at Pittodrie. It might even be a chance to get some coaching credentials before returning to Celtic as manager.

Brown has been in and out of the Celtic side this season, with the likes of Ismaila Soro preferred at times. He leaves Celtic during a season in which he has failed to secure 10 in a row – and Rangers winning their first title in 10 years.

One of his former Celtic teammates in winger McCourt has reacted to his exit on Twitter – stating that Brown’s exit from Parkhead is a “sad day” in a nine-word Tweet.
