Pablo Hernandez has sent a touching message to Leeds United teammate Gaetano Berardi after a cruel twist of fate befell the defender – after the Whites confirmed he had suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Berardi, 31, joined Leeds way back in 2014 and has since clocked up 155 appearances in all competitions for the Whites. This season, he has played 25 times, being used at centre-back, right-back and left-back.
Since joining Leeds, the one-time Switzerland international has dreamed of helping his side reach a place in the Premier League. He is out of contract at the end of the season – with reports claiming a new deal had been planned.
But Leeds confirmed a bitter blow for Berardi, days after promotion was secured as Championship title winners – as he suffered an ACL injury which will keep him sidelined well into the new year, possibly April.

Plans to extend his contract now could be thrown on the scrapheap. Despite being a fan favourite at Elland Road and crucial off the pitch, the injury to Berardi may see Leeds opt against handing him a new deal.
Pablo Hernandez reacted to the news that Berardi had picked up an injury that is likely to keep the defender out of action for the majority of the 2020-21 season – posting a touching Instagram message to the defender.
