Leeds United started the new Championship season with a bang yesterday afternoon. The Whites defeated Bristol City 3-1 at Ashton Gate in a game in which they rarely looked uncomfortable.
Pablo Hernandez was the undoubted star of the occasion. He opened the scoring with a delightful left-foot finish before providing an assist for Patrick Bamford to score the second goal of the game. Jack Harrison scored Leeds’ third before a consolation goal from Andreas Weimann.
He also made a mockery of an apparent former Leeds United transfer target. Callum O’Dowda twice found himself humiliated by the former Spanish international.

Not only did Hernandez skip past the Irishman with ease to set up Bamford’s header, but he also nutmegged the Bristol City player twice in quick succession in the first-half.
O’Dowda was linked with a move to Leeds in the January transfer window. As reported by the Bristol Post in January, O’Dowda was valued at £8-£10 million as Leeds considered the winger. In the end, Leeds settled their attention on Daniel James of Swansea City, in a deal that infamously collapsed on deadline day.
The Mirror reported earlier this summer that Leeds had completely abandoned their interest in the 24-year-old, who has just 12 months left on his Robins contract.
Judging by the way Hernandez took him back to school over the weekend, Leeds United fans will not be overly disappointed.
