Leeds United playmaker and fan favourite Pablo Hernandez took the club’s failure to win promotion to the Premier League hard. The Spaniard was pictured on tears both when automatic promotion and play-off chances slipped away.
He clearly has an affinity with the Leeds fans and the failure has been hard to take for the former Spanish international.
This weekend, his weekend could have gone from bad to worse. Whilst he loves Leeds United, he also has a soft spot for his hometown team of CD Castellon.

It is not just that Hernandez is a fan of the club where he started his football education, but he also part-owns the club. He, along with former team-mate Angel Dealbert and investors, saved the club in 2017. Whilst they stepped down from their technical roles at the club last month due to ‘sporting disagreements’, as reported by El Mercantil Valenciano, the duo remain shareholders at the club.
Yesterday they faced a fight to survive in a daunting match-up against the Barcelona B team. However, Castellon pulled it off. A 2-1 win ensured survival for the club and made sure Pablo Hernandez’s horrible week did not get any worse.
The 34-year-old will seemingly not have as hands-on a role at his beloved Castellon from next season. But he will ecstatic that they secured their place in the third tier again for next season.
