Michael Owen has shared on BT Sport (broadcast on 27/4 from 19:00) what James Milner told him regarding Luis Diaz and what the Liverpool squad thought about the forward immediately after training with him for the first time.

Diaz has proved to be a revelation of a signing since arriving at Anfield during the January transfer window. He arrived under plenty of pressure, with the Reds parting with a big sum and the Colombian shining for Porto before his move.

But he has lived up to expectations since moving to Merseyside. He has scored four goals and provided three assists. And he has certainly shown that he is good enough to compete with the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

In fact, Jurgen Klopp handed him a start alongside the pair on Wednesday as Liverpool faced Villarreal in the first-leg of their Champions League semi-final.

It is a further indicator of how good Diaz has been. And it seems that his teammates have been just as impressed. Ahead of the tie with the Yellow Submarine, Owen shared what Milner told him about the 25-year-old.

“I was talking to James Milner about Luis Diaz and he was saying that from the very first few seconds of the very first training session, they all knew instantly he was made to play for Liverpool,” he told BT Sport.

Diaz vindicated Klopp’s faith on Wednesday. The Reds now have one foot in the final after a 2-0 victory over Unai Emery’s men. And Diaz was one of a number who were excellent.

He gave Juan Foyth a torrid evening. And he threatened to break the deadlock on a couple of occasions.

There now looks to be a very decent chance he could be a Champions League winner inside his first few months at Anfield.
